About Doris

Doris’s history includes 30 years of promoting and teaching art therapy. She founded the graduate Art Therapy Psychology Department at Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont, CA. A renowned program it is one of two approved by the American Art Therapy Association and the California Board of Behavioral Science where over 2000 students have graduated.  In addition to the dozen and dozen of art therapy psychology courses she has taught in higher education she is a frequent guest of universities across the USA. For ten years, she was a summer scholar at University of Florida in Tallahassee and in 2003 she held a Fulbright Senior Specialist position at Wisconsin International University, Kiev, Ukraine.

In addition to her professional graduate courses, Doris has presented more than 100 invited keynotes, workshops, and courses throughout the US, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. Her audiences have included mental health caregivers, physicians, psychologists, education, and arts professionals; pastors, art therapy, and expressive therapies students; and the general public.   A guest of the Chinese government she has lectured in hospitals in Kunming, China and the Profector medical training school in Zhongdien, China. In Taiwan and South Korea Doris taught trauma and art therapy treatment at the Myongi University Center for Psychotherapy and at the Taiwan Institute of Psychotherapy.

Honors received include: Honorary Life Member – Northern California Art Therapy Association (NoCATA), Distinguished Service Award, American Art Therapy Association (AATA), Outstanding Educator in Teaching, University of San Francisco, Sister Catharine Julie Cunningham Research Award, Notre Dame de Namur University (NDNU), Fulbright Senior Specialist, Ukraine and inclusion in many Who Who’s groups in both the USA and Great Brittan.
